So you secured your domain name and you are adamant it is the next best thing to sliced bread but when you try to sell it to an existing business why is your domain not selling?
Here are the reasons why your domain is not selling.
You domain name might not be worth anything even though you may think it does.
Unless you know anything about SEO and how domain names and their domain extensions work you need to focus on something else.
If you have a domain name that is a novelty domain hack or a .co for example but you are using keywords that do not correspond to the country cc-TLD’s domain extension why would you think your domain has value? Say you had cardiffhotels.co just as an example, if the company then tried to do PPC advertising they would get traffic from Colombia and not from Cardiff and there advertising budgets would be a waste of time and money. If you are approaching an already established business unless your domain is in demand, why would a company buy your domain? A company buys domains for the following reasons:
They are branding themselves.
The want to secure global positioning for the keyword search terms.
They are re-branding.
The want to increase traffic.
They want to add SEO Links Wheels.
Not all companies have high marketing budgets.
As an example I ideally would have liked to have had the domain www.ukdb.com short for www.ukdomainbrokers.com but I do not have the budget to buy this domain even if it was ever offered to me and do not plan to cripple myself borrowing money to acquire it. Also it is not on the first page of Google for the search terms ‘UK Domain Brokers’, so it would not be beneficial to me considering I am already on the first page for the search terms ‘UK Domain Brokers’.
So unless a business that has a large marketing budget saw that the domain name was on the first page of Google generating traffic the chances of your domain selling are very slim.
Businesses want the traffic more than they want the domain namein most case if they are already established brand name.
So unless a business is branding or re-branding themselves with a short brandable word this is the only time they would consider buying your domain name, providing they had a large marketing budget of course.
The only other way a business would consider acquiring your domain name if you generated traffic for that domain and had the domain on the first page of Google. (Basically you doing all the hard work).
But in order to do so you need to develop the domain name first and perform SEO.
A domain name is just a domain name unless it has value and is in demand.
You need to show businesses that your domain is worth something otherwise at the end of the day you will not sell it.
Your domain name also need to be visible, not just parked on some marketplace. It needs to be on Google in order to be found organically.
The value of the domain name is whatever a company is prepared for it.
You can make calculations via Google Keyword planner and pre-empt how much Google will charge for bids on Google Ads but unless your domain is generating traffic, it will be like selling snow to the Eskimo’s. No one will want a domain name if they are already established unless they are branding or re-branding themselves or want more traffic and its the traffic they you need to make in order to make your domain valuable.
When registering domain names and evidently trying to flip them one needs to have an element of knowledge about SEO. With guidelines and rules changing all the time one must adapt a strategy that works with Google Algorithms.
A domain name, for example is by far one of the most important known foundations for an SEO-friendly website. Having exact match searchable keywords in the domain name as well distributed keywords in your content and metatags will help with ranking your website. It is all about establishing a brand credibility that users can trust — an authority that people would find relevant with useful information.
Another formula is to register domains with a ‘.com’ TLD (top-level domains. However, dot com domain names are mainly US traffic dominated and the abbreviation (com) means commerce which has been adapted for global trade. If you are trying to target traffic in a specific location for example UK then a dot com would not be an ideal option. Dot com domain names are primarily for international business and global branding. According to statistics, 47.1% of all the websites use a domain that ends with ‘.com’. Dot coms by far do dominate the planet and will get ranked faster than other domain name extensions, I should know with www.ukdomainbrokers.com that forwards to a sub domain of www.ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk yet my dot com is on the first page of Google whilst my dot co uk version is not.
It is a common misconception that in order to secure global positioning you essentially need a dot com domain name. But if you are a small business only targeting locally you may not find a (dot com) domain suitable.
If on the other hand you are trying to brand your business for a worldwide audience then it makes sense to get a dot com domain name. In a lot of cases one-word dot coms are hard to come by and people tend to use alternative domain extensions or change their brand to two or more words.
Therefore, does using an alternative TLD affect SEO?
This all depends what country code domain extension you register the domain name as, cc TLDs may cause a with problem with GEO Targeting. Thus why do people insist on using dot com domain names?
To understand this a little better, we will cover a few known facts.
Some Generic TLDs and Their Association have been associated as Spam sites. In recent years, new TLDs are slowly being introduced to counteract the volume of websites being created on a daily basis.
I will focus on generic TLDS (gTLDs) and country code TLDs (ccTLDs) for now.
According to the Domains Index, there are now about 1,500 top-level domains being used worldwide, with about 31,063,341 domain names registered in a new-gTLD. However there are a handful of gTLDs which are associated with spam sites, including but not limited to .biz, .info, (.zip),(.review), (.country), (.kim), (.cricket), (.science), (.work), (.party), (.gq), (.link), (.xyz).
By using an alternative gTLDs, there is a risk that your target visitors might view your site as illegitimate or straight up harmful.
According to Google alternative gTLDs do not directly affect a website’s search rankings, however they might influence the audience’s perception of a brand — therefore affecting the brand’s click-through rate.
A domain name is the first thing a visitor will gauge on in a brand’s credibility. Most SEO experts recommend the ‘.com’ TLD because there is a well known saying ‘Dot Com is King’ and the domain extension is recognised all over the world, rather than being beneficial for GEO targeted traffic.
Just take a look at the domains of blue-chip brands like Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft which are worldwide known brand names that would without out a doubt be affected if they did not have a dot com domain name under their belts.
There is however a light at the end of the tunnel to alternative gTLDs: they can help make your domain name more meaningful and industry specific. For example, ‘. tech’ and ‘.io’ domains are now trending for both as start-ups companies and tech sites.
If a user searches for something that they expect from a credible source of tech-related information, they will be more willing to click a site with the (.tech) or (.io) extension which in most cases are located in India as it is a well-known fact that more and more India based Entrepreneurs are starting up in the Tech World as they are taught computer science from an early age as a compulsory subject in schools, going on to be web designers wizards and SEO experts.
Novelty Charm Domains or Domain Hacks.
In some situations, using a specific novelty gTLD can also complement your branding efforts. These are sometimes referred to as “novelty charm domains” or “domain hacks”. These will not necessarily help drive GEO targeted traffic to your domain name, but they may be quirky and memorable and used to help advertise a business’s brand.
Some examples are: www.simp.ly, www.close.ly www.passport.photos www.digital.marketing www.ken.co
If the domain extensions has a country code domain extension like (.ly) Libya or (.me) Montenegro (.co) Colombia, they will be inundated with traffic from those countries.
With a little creativity, even unusual gTLDs can sometimes work, but are not recommended as the default brand domain name, which depending on your location and where you want your traffic to come from will determine which domain extension to use.
Now that we have established that alternative gTLDs are somewhat risky, what about localized TLDs?
Country Code TLDs and Geo Targeting
When it comes to local domain extensions or country code top-level domains a survey revealed that, aside from ‘.com’, people are more likely to trust a domain with ‘.co.uk’ — one of the most popular examples of ccTLDs. The main reason brands use ccTLDs is due to its benefits for geo targeting.
For example, since “UK” is embedded in a ‘.co.uk’ domain, then it is more likely to appear in search results like “uk website designers”, “uk domain brokers”, and so on.
Furthermore, using ccTLDs can influence buyers confidence by assuring the availability of goods or services in a specific location. It also signals that you are a local business, thus, making potential buyers feel as if it is easier to make a purchase from you.
Google Search Console ccTLDs
If your goal in using ccTLDs is to drive geo targeted traffic, you can maximize your success with Google Search Console. In your dashboard, go to Search Traffic > International Targeting and then select the “Country” tab.

Next, simply tick the “Target users in” checkbox and select the country you want to target from the dropdown list.

Your domain is now better optimized. However, it is not full proof, for search users from a specific location. This depends on what ccTLD name you are using. If you are using a dot com domain name but only want traffic in Wales UK unfortunately even with these setting you will get global traffic primarily from the USA.
Consider Your Web Hosting
Your SEO efforts could have a negative outcome by a sub standard site performance.
Do look for web hosting companies that offer localized servers. You can also opt for a content-delivery network to leverage a global-distribution network of servers instead.
Companies also tend to register multiple country code domain names in different languages to help with localized domain traffic, this is because they expect the site to be shown in the native language. For example, if you use the ‘.pl’ domain extension, then your users might expect you to use the Polish language. Also, someone in Poland will click in the search results a domain extension ending with .pl rather than another country code. You can adjust the setting in you Google console to match the domain name domain extension.
Google My Business
Remember to make Google your friend and register your website on Google My Business which will help with ranking a local business, it will also help make your site more visible on Google services such as Maps and Search.
Registering Domain names is not an exact science and one needs to be familiar with SEO before trying to sell a domain to a company for example in the UK in most cases will not use a domain extension like .co which is the country code for Colombia. If say the company then decided to implement PPC advertising in no time at all their efforts and budget would be swallowed up by visitors from Colombia. Using an alternate domain extension does affect SEO.The outcome whether it is negative or positive depends on the TLD you choose. Remember that the TLD is still an important piece of your domain name. If you choose poorly, your site may be unfairly associated with spam or overlooked as irrelevant to a local audience. Do it correctly and it can do wonders for your SEO, branding and marketing efforts.
Furthermore, you are adding confusion to a website if you try marketing a (.co) domain name for example to a British Business. Brits tend to recognise (.co.uk & .uk) as trustworthy sites and may be hesitant to even use a (.com) let alone a (.co) domain extension unless they are trying to reach a worldwide audience for the (dot com) or Colombia for the dot (.co).
Domain extension flops
The same applies to domain extensions that have tried and failed. Tuvalu for example tried to turn their domain(.tv) domain extension into “dot Television.Western Samoa tried to market their country level domain (.ws),as “dot World Site. Djibouti failed to attract many DJs with their country level domain (.dj) and now we have to contend with the (.co) for Colombia.
Country codes domain extensions matter in terms of driving traffic from the said location to the website you are trying to market. The confusion that a (.co) domain is an alternative to a (dot com) is further from the truth and half the time people who tell you otherwise have no knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation and have simply jumped on the band wagon in the hope of making huge amounts of money from a domain name that has no equity perceived or to otherwise.
Have you noticed when you search for something in the search results you will only find websites within your location so if you are in the UK the majority of websites will be country code extension related to the UK, they can even be precise to your exact location and your home town by algorithms capturing your exact ip location and then cross matching search results more accurately.
This is called GEO Targeting.
A GEOTARGET is a filter that works as a preferred option. The filter reorders DNS answers based on the user’s detected geolocation and sends the appropriate answer based on the user’s origin.
Hence if the user is in the UK he will not have websites from other countries .it, .es, .pl, .co in the search results.
A GEOFENCE filter on the other hand works like a walled (fenced) garden. Only the websites identified by the metadata as allowed to receive an endpoint answer to the query. This filter can be configured, for example, to allow specific countries within a region to get a different answer than all the other countries in that region. The filter removes DNS answers from the answer pool based on configured metadata and the user’s origin IP address.
When setting up filters, select either the GEOFENCE or GEOTARGET filter. They cannot be both and cannot be used in the same Filter Chain.
Why can’t you use Region or Country GEO TARGETING and GEO FENCING together?
Each filter in the Filter Chain has associated metadata, countries or regions, for each of the DNS answers. If you have a GEOTARGET_COUNTRY and a GEOFENCE_COUNTRY in the same filter chain with the same metadata, the DNS answers you want to provide for the GEOTARGET answers could potentially be stripped out of the available answers by the GEOFENCE filter.
What if I need to use both Geo Targeting and GEO Fencing?
The best recommendation would be to change Domain Name Server CNAME records and setup a Filter Chain using both GEOFENCE and GEOTARGET filters.
The example would be as follows:
Change your DNS records, for example: ns2.example.com. Include 2 A records for the domain: answer1.both.ns2.example.com and answer2.both.ns2.example.com. You should also note that A records in the portal can contain up to 100 IP address answers for each A record.
Remember anyone can put up a website and claim to be a domain broker/consultant but not everyone is a SEO expert and will not know how domain extensions work and may misinform you and will not necessarily tell you all the pros and cons of buying and selling domain names.

Update from my last post…….it has transpired that my client’s domain name was transferred to a marketing company who instead of asking him to change DNS records asked to takeover the domain name to manage. They then had a website site designer company develop a website for him and this year due to the Coronavirus Lockdown and breakdown of communication the website designers admitted that they were at fault and failed to renew my clients domain name.
I have the emails that they had dropped the domain by accident and did not renew it.
As a consequence my client who has been in business for over 15 years and has branded his vehicles with the domain name lost the domain name to someone else who registered the domain in bad faith.
I will explain in a moment and will also warn anyone that gets contacted by these companies which are based in India & USA to stay well away.
The marketing company that first took over the domain was https://www.hmlmarketing.co.uk
So moving forward HML Marketing had SEOFIED developed my clients domain name. The website designers are www.seofied.com located in India.
So this is where it gets interesting in April of this year according to seofied.com they dropped the domain name by accident and failed to renew the said domain which I will come to in a moment.
My clients domain name that has been compromised is owned by someone who registered the domain in bad faith and I will now show you why:

My clients branding has been jeopardised, never mind his carbon footprint of backlinks he has accumilated over the last few years.
Here is proof of his branding.
The reason why I am involved in this is my client came to me a while ago and said he was concerned that www.seofied.com were not doing their job properly and were not updating him or replying to his emails.
So I asked if he had an agreement with them like a contract and he said he did not.
I then instructed him to give www.seofied.com notice and ask for them to transfer the domain back to him and for my client to change the DNS records to point to a website I had built him www.electricianswales.co.uk
Brand Audit / Discovery
TOTAL COST Low Cost £7,400 High Cost £155,000
As per the time of my email to my client I calculated how much income he has lost because his domain was inaccessible based on the 83 days would have beeen as follows:
Consumer unit (fuse box) replacement £500 (0.5 – 1 day)
Low @ £180 per day x 83 days is £14,940.00 High @ £350 per day x 83 day is £29,050.00
So therefore my clients total losses based on 83 days would be something like:
LOW COST: £14,940.00 in lost income plus re-branding £7,400.00 Total £22,340.00 HIGH COST: £29,050.00 in lost income plus re-branding £155,000.00 Total £184,050.00
However it has surpassed 90 days from the time my client no longer had any access to the domain that was registered on the 10th July 2020.
I need to also note my suspicions as my clients website was still showing as it were an electrical website up until August so that meant that the owner of the website simply changed registrant owner details in July 2020 and in August changed the look of the website.
I spoke with Nominet and they told me to get my client to contact this registrar to pass on a message to the owner.
I also sent a direct message on the contact form of the compromised domain/website to cease and desist using the domain name and not surprisingly I did not get a reply.
Nominet advised to start a complaint via www.nominet.uk/go/drs if my client does not get a reply from the current owners registrar.
Moral of the story – support local businesses and consider this, if a website designer offers a low cost website from abroad , what they are essentially doing is reeling you in. Do not think for one moment you are getting a bargain on the contrary in the long run you are getting what you pay for.

Before I start to explain why I have written this post today, I would firstly like to make this introduction my most important point. Whenever you are going to engage in website design and domain name registration with another company, you MUST have a CONTRACT in place if things go pear shape further down the line.
With companies popping up in India daily offering you cheap web design and hosting it is very tempting to get drawn to these companies but what happens when the company suddenly disappears or transfers your domain and points it to another website that they own, this in turn can causes major problems for your business. What do you do?
Whenever you engage in business with another party, always check them out, see if anyone has written anything bad about them and see how many connections or followers they have. It is always good to perform due diligence on a business to see if they are legitimate or not.
If a company has 190 followers but according to their website they have 90+ staff you may want to question are these figures true and what else are they not telling you, when in reality they have 72 employees in the LinkedIn profile, with offices right round the world.
Did you know you can buy telephone numbers and adresses from different locations around the world to make it look as if you are located in may countries, but in reality you are working in you bedroom all by yourself. Did you also know you can buy followers and likes to social media accounts in which some are just bots and not real users. The world is fake and we need to be careful to suss out the real businesses from the shady ones.
Also if a business claims to have all these offices right round the world but uses the business address as a Flat No, this should set off alarm bells. Just because a website is nicely designed does not mean anything if the owner of the website is indeed not telling you the truth and refraining from drawing up contracts.
So like I said there is a reason for this post as a client of mine contacted me yesterday and said one of his other websites and domain name was pointing to a clothing site yet he is an electrician. So to try and help him I performed a whois report and found the domain had been renewed on the 10th July 2020 and changed servers 7 times in its history, which to me meant that the company that registered the domain on behalf of my client are now cybersquatting his domain name.
My client as a result is losing business hand over fist as his domain name has a carbon foot print many miles long.
I am trying to get my head round this, say for argument sake a client comes to me and orders a web hosting package and asks me to register the domain name on his her behalf. I would first and foremost draw up an agreement stating what would happen if the client defaulted or came to end of his/her contract. I would not leave them in the lurch for starters. Secondly I would not be changing servers. If say I used a particular domain name provider and wanted to host the domain on one of my servers I would not start changing servers unless there was something wrong with them. By changing servers whilst hosting and transferring domain names you will be able to change the ip address and make it more difficult to trace the domain owner.
After more digging I even found a blog that my client is most probably not aware of, using his brand name and logo which has affiliate links integrated into it. All this will be in my report to my client and again all there is a contact form but no email or other contact details. Considering this company I am investigating claims to be professional they are giving a bad name for all other website designers in India and their blog looks like a five year old has done it.
For all intents and purposes I will not post the business entity name or the CEOs for legal reason just yet, which may I add I have sent invitations to connect with me today on Linkedin until I get postive feeback from them.
Hopefully this will get resolved without the whole world knowing about it and it will be a lesson learnt always have a contract and maintain communication between you client and web developer.
As you know I have nearly 8,000 connection of LinkedIn most of which are domain name investors, brokers, website designers and internet marketers and yes some are from India.
(I am not saying all businesses in India are bad, just this particular one that looks very shady www.seofied.com), in fact far from it as I do have some very good clients that I work with from India and this particular company I am investigating is giving everyone else a bad name.
I have in the past had my fair share of emails from dubious web developers from India claiming they can do this that and the other and being something that they are not and if they do not have email signatures or links to their websites stay well away, especially if they use western names rather than their own.
As an exampIe for argument sake I may have an email from someone called ‘Tom Jones’ not the welsh singer but in fact someone in India using a western name, the trust of that person has immediately gone through the window and I will not entertain that person.
If you cannot be honest and use your real name and your real location then you obviously have something to hide. You must be transparent in your business so that people can trust you.
The reason why there are so many web designers, app developers and computer programmers from India is because schools in India from elemetary teach their children computer science as a compulsary subject. This is the future and computer programming, web design, software, app development and artificial intelligence are the main stream industries to be in.
With this said I also have connections with some of the top registrars and connections with WIPO so it would not be beneficial for this company to not try and resolve this issue as quickly as possible as they certainly would not want the bad publicity.
But for the time being I will leave you with these thoughts, whenever you are doing business with a web designer/ app developer or software progammer or business in general from another country make sure you have a written agreement in place and always do your homework and check them out before agreeing to anything.

Ideally I would have liked the dot com domain name but have had to settled for one that will attract UK traffic rather than a global audience. I will move to do magic marketing which I am confident will get world wide spectators. To be honest I am not that fussed if I was unable to acquire the dot com or dot co dot uk for that matter as I just plan to use it as a landing page for my book which I plan to launch soon.
Anyone approaching me with the dot com or dot co dot uk can think again as I am not interested unless they give it to me for free. Its the person that develops a site first should have sole control over the domain name and all its extensions unless similar to trademark registration can register the same name and develop it under a different class.
I have most of my chapters already written out and I am not ashamed to say it I have disabilities and want to empower people that they too can achieve their goals no matter what they are going through or faced with.
So why are domain names valuable, well here are the reasons why:
If you want your brand to stand out you want it to be a memorable domain name. However if you choose an acronym that no one has heard or your brand you have to consider extensive marketing and adverising strategies for some one to memorise your brand name.
However you can opt for (EMD) ‘Exact Match Domain’ keyword words or phrases so that the person searching for your product or service will instantaneously find you in the search results.
The ultimate example of this is the hospitality industry. Hotels.com sold for $11 million in 2001. It doesn’t take memory training or a genius to remember that if you want to book a hotel online, simply type in hotels and hotels.com will be what pops up. Although it has now surpassed by bookings.com which also trademarked their entire domain name.
To own a (EDA) you not only secure global positioning you also generate traffic for the search terms in which you can save money on expensive PPC marketing such as Google ADs. As an example the top selling domain of all time, insurance.com is a hugely profitable niche, that has the potential to earn huge profits and is reflected in bid prices on Google Adwords for some of the products insurance.com offers. Life insurance for example, has a suggested bid of £27.82 for each click with monthly seraches of between 100K & 1Million.
Therefore if you are paying for paid advertisng or are not on the first few pages of any search engine Google being the first page as the predominent one you need to evaluate your brand or set up seo link wheels to generate traffic from a different direction.
Branding is fundamental part of you business. You need to be remembered easily. As an example I could easily have chosen to brand myself as ‘UKWD’ (UK Website Designers) or ‘UKDB’ (UK Domain Brokers) but that would have meant I would have had to work harder for people to recognise my brand and do extensive amrketing and advertising. The advertising costs would have been astronomical, so I opted for (EMD) Exact Match Searchable Domain Names that described my niche.
Brands Names are memorable words that are recognised globally. A brand name or trade name is the title of your business, service or product it often is a noun or accronym and applied by a manufacturer or organization to a particular product or service. While a brand name is sometimes simply the name of the founders of a company, such as Apple or Facebook it can also have long tail names such as Yellow Page or Johnson & Johnson for example. Brand names are cleverly thought-out marketing strategies geared towards establishing consumer awareness.
A domain name usually costs more if it is a one word domain name (noun) or a short two to three word domain name providing it is an exact match searchable keywords or phrase. Usually the one word nouns that describle the business cost the most amount of money. Length is closely linked to memorability so it makes sense that shorter domains are more valuable.
Search Engine Rankings
Choosing the right domain name for you business is also a crucial factor when it comes to SEO. The domain name alone can help with ranking to a certain degree but will not magically get you on the first page unless you do some hard work. What I mean by this is one needs to optimise the site/blog to it full potential by adding keyword enriched quality content, meta tags and backlinks. A keyword domain name will generate traffic only if you optimise it, hence a lot of companies use wordpress to regulary update content which Google Loves. If Google sees you are submitting quality content on a regular basis it will start ranking you.
Choosing the right country code domain extention for you location will help you generate targeted trafiic. You can set GEO Fencing within Google Webmasters Search Console but if you are located in the UK and only want UK traffic it is best to stay clear of domain extensions that are not in your location and stick with .co.uk.
However it is the dot com domain that has got me on the first page of Google and not the sub domain, which tells me that Google prefers dot coms over other domain extensions. My methology behind my thinking was to get my site ranked quickly and I did not mind traffic from the USA which is where the majority of it it comes from even though I have set my GEO location for the UK.
If you have a domain extension other than a dot com it may take you longer to get ranked. The quickest way to get on the first page is to pay for Google Ads if you do not own a dot com and are not churning out fresh content regulary. It is the combination of regular quality content, meta tags, backlinks that will get you more traffic.

If the domain name is a brand and is selling a product or service and has a website that is generating traffic and is fully optimised with all branding including a memorable logo, then your domain automatically has increased in value and the cost of the domain name will be determined by all these factors aswell if it is a well known household name.
My final thoughts:
If you are paying for PPC ads and are not on the first page of search engines orgnically, consider building a SEO link wheel if your budget permits, in either case I am happy to advise your best options.

Finally I have it on good authority that what I have been saying for years now someone has finally written about it. Granted it is old news, yesterdays news in fact on“Domain Name Wire’s” blog whereby “Andrew Allemann” wrote an article about Lottery Tickets and Domain Names.
I will let you read his post in a moment but first I would like to reiterate what I have been saying over and over again, unless you have knowledge in SEO & Website Design how can you have knowledge how much a domain name is worth other than comparing past sales of similar domain names. Just because a domain was sold for xyz there is absolutely no guarantee your domain name will sell for a similar price. It all boils down the company’s marketing/advertising budgets. They cannot pull £1,000,000.00 out a hat just because you think your domain is worth that much. They would have to justify why the domain was worth what you were asking and they would also be accountable to the tax man (HMRC or IRS) depending where they live.
Obviously if they were a global brand then that would be a different matter but they still would have to explain such a high figure for a domain name.
I have got to the stage I copy and paste the following information to domain sellers as sometimes it simply does not sink in.
The problem with domain names if they do not have equity then unless they are one-word dot coms they will only be bought by domain investors rather than end-users for very low prices or maybe may never sell at all.
What I mean about equity is:
1) Developed Fully Optimised Website
2) A Website that Generates a Lot of Traffic
3) A Website that Sells a Product or Service.
I also believe that people need visualisation and need to see what you are offering them. By simply offering a domain name 9 times out of 10 people will not grasp the concept why a domain is worth a lot of money.
I in my own experience have had more success selling a domain name with a developed website as I offer that to the potential buyer as a full ready made package and trying to take it away it is like taking away candy from a child.
As for brandable words and you will find companies that are already established may not want to rebrand themselves, so the only way they would be interested is if this domain was generating a lot of traffic and they bought the domain for the traffic rather than for the domain name.
But to generate traffic a domain name needs to be developed and optimised. Start-ups on the other hand usually do not have much money to play around with so they will try to find the cheapest option and look for alternative domain extensions that meet with in their budget usually hand registering a domain that is half decent.
One also must consider the world economy right now and businesses are trying to keep their heads above water so the last thing on their minds right now is marketing or domain investing.
If you read the news blue chip companies are laying off their workers or closing their doors and some are even going into administration, so the overall outlook does not look good.
Acronyms and Brandable Domains are also very hard to sell so unless your domains have some meaning to the end user the chances of these domains selling are very slim and domain hacks are basically useless when it comes to SEO.
So you may have more luck buying lottery tickets than buying domain names.

As a website designer and internet marketer I have found that intergrating the cost of a domain name within the website package is usually the best option and whereby a client pays monthly installments. They then can pay a fee at the end of the contract to take the domain name with him/her otherwise the domain name is leased to them depending on the agreement in place.
I always draw up contracts and people who do not sign, i simply do not do business with.
Eveything has to be black and white and above board so that there are no misunderstanding further down the line.
If anything the domain brokers world has given me wider opportunities and I have met some great people on this journey.

A word of cautionDomain Name Hacking is best left for marketing purposes only and has little value when it comes to SEO as what ever country code domain extension you use, traffic will be generated from that country and if you are using word dot word domainhack it becomes very broad and has limitations on the traffic you want to generate.
Before venturing into the world of buying and selling domain names is to get background knowledge of website design, marketing and SEO. Do not give up your day job and do not spend money on domain names if you are going to struggle to put food on the table.
