What Responsibilities Does A Website Designer Have?

What Responsibilities Does A Website Designer Have?

Understanding the Responsibilities of a Website Designer

Introduction: In the digital age, a well-designed and user-friendly website plays a crucial role in the success of any business or organization. Behind the scenes, a website designer takes on the responsibility of creating an engaging and visually appealing online presence. Their expertise lies in combining technical skills and creative flair to craft a website that not only attracts visitors but also delivers a seamless user experience.

  1. Understanding Client Requirements: A website designer’s primary responsibility is to comprehend the goals, vision, and requirements of the client. This involves effective communication and gathering information about the purpose of the website, target audience, branding guidelines, and any specific features or functionalities that the client desires. By understanding these aspects, the designer can create a website that aligns with the client’s objectives.
  2. Planning and Wireframing: Once the requirements are clear, the website designer begins the planning phase. This involves creating a site map and wireframes that outline the structure and layout of the website. Wireframes act as visual guides, showcasing the placement of key elements such as navigation menus, content sections, and call-to-action buttons. By planning the website’s architecture, the designer ensures optimal user flow and intuitive navigation.
  3. Visual Design and User Interface (UI) Design: The visual design aspect is where a website designer’s creativity shines. They are responsible for creating an aesthetically pleasing website that aligns with the client’s branding. This includes selecting the color scheme, typography, graphics, and images that evoke the desired emotions and enhance the user experience. Additionally, the designer focuses on creating an intuitive user interface (UI) that makes it easy for visitors to interact with the website and find the information they need.
  4. Front-End Development: While website designers primarily focus on the visual aspects, they should also possess a solid understanding of front-end development. This involves translating the design into functional code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The designer should ensure cross-browser compatibility, responsive design for various devices, and optimize the website for fast loading times. Collaboration with developers and adhering to web standards and best practices is crucial at this stage.
  5. Content Integration: Content is the backbone of any website, and a website designer must collaborate with content creators or clients to integrate text, images, videos, and other multimedia elements effectively. They ensure that the content is presented in a visually appealing manner and properly aligned with the overall design. Designers may also incorporate content management systems (CMS) that allow clients to update and manage their website content easily.
  6. Testing and Quality Assurance: Before a website goes live, thorough testing is essential to identify and fix any functional or design issues. A website designer must conduct comprehensive testing across different devices, screen sizes, and browsers to ensure the website is responsive and consistent. They also verify that all links, forms, and interactive elements are working correctly. Additionally, the designer should optimize the website for search engine visibility, adhering to SEO principles.
  7. Ongoing Maintenance and Updates: Websites are not static entities; they require regular maintenance and updates. A website designer often provides post-launch support by monitoring the website’s performance, fixing any bugs or issues that arise, and implementing requested changes or updates. They may also offer ongoing website management services, including security updates, content updates, and performance optimization.

Is it the responsibility of the web designer to generate leads?

While web designers can contribute to lead generation indirectly through the design and user experience of a website, their primary responsibility typically lies in the visual and technical aspects of website creation.

Lead generation often falls under the domain of digital marketing and sales teams. However, a web designer can incorporate elements into the website design that facilitate lead generation. These may include strategically placed call-to-action buttons, lead capture forms, intuitive navigation, and clear messaging that encourages visitors to take action.

Collaboration between web designers and marketing teams is crucial to ensure that the website design supports lead-generation efforts effectively.

Conclusion

If you build a website and do not do SEO your website will float in cyberspace. To get leads to your site you have to have products and services people will want to buy.

It is not the responsibility of the website designer after they have optimized your site to get leads. It is up to you to hire a marketing agency to help you with advertising campaigns and marketing.

If your products or services are not up to par, people will not buy.

A website designer plays a vital role in creating an impressive online presence for businesses and organizations. From understanding client requirements to implementing the design, their responsibilities encompass a broad range of tasks. By combining technical skills, creative design abilities, and a deep understanding of user experience, a website designer contributes to the success of a website by getting it on the first pages of search engines and having the pages indexed and ranked.

It is not the responsibility of the website designer to get visitors to convert into enquiries and sales.

Why You Should Teach Businesses Not To Buy Backlinks

Why You Should Teach Businesses Not To Buy Backlinks

Businesses rely heavily on their online presence to attract customers and generate revenue, therefore one important aspect of building a strong online presence is search engine optimization (SEO). SEO refers to the practice of optimizing a website’s content and structure to improve its ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). One of the most important factors in SEO is backlinks or links from other websites that point to your website. Backlinks signal to search engines that your website is authoritative and trustworthy, and can significantly improve your website’s ranking on SERPs. However, not all backlinks are created equal, and buying backlinks can hurt your website’s ranking and reputation.

Buying backlinks involves paying for links to your website to be placed on other websites. The idea is that these links will signal to search engines that your website is authoritative and trustworthy, and will improve your website’s ranking on SERPs. However, buying backlinks is against the guidelines of search engines like Google, and can result in penalties that hurt your website’s ranking and visibility.

Here are some reasons why you should teach businesses not to buy backlinks:

  1. Buying backlinks is against the guidelines of search engines like Google.

Search engines like Google have strict guidelines that govern how websites should be optimized for search. These guidelines prohibit the use of spammy or manipulative techniques, including buying backlinks. If a website is found to be violating these guidelines, it can be penalized or even banned from search results altogether. Teaching businesses not to buy backlinks can help them avoid these penalties and maintain their search visibility.

  1. Bought backlinks are often low-quality and irrelevant.

Many websites that sell backlinks offer low-quality links from irrelevant or spammy websites. These links are unlikely to improve your website’s ranking and can hurt your reputation with search engines. By teaching businesses not to buy backlinks, you can help them focus on building high-quality, relevant links that will improve their SEO.

  1. Building high-quality backlinks takes time and effort, but is worth it in the long run.

Building high-quality backlinks is a long-term SEO strategy that requires time and effort. However, the benefits of high-quality backlinks can be significant, including improved search visibility, increased traffic, and higher conversions. By teaching businesses to focus on building high-quality backlinks through content creation, outreach, and relationship building, you can help them achieve sustainable, long-term SEO success.

Conclusion

Buying backlinks is a tempting shortcut for businesses looking to improve their SEO quickly. However, it is important to educate businesses on the risks and drawbacks of this practice. By focusing on building high-quality backlinks through content creation, outreach, and relationship building, businesses can achieve sustainable, long-term SEO success without risking penalties or damaging their reputation with search engines.

Why exclusively brokering is a bad thing

Why exclusively brokering is a bad thing

Brokering is the act of facilitating a transaction between two parties for a fee or commission. The idea of being a broker has become increasingly popular in recent years, with the rise of online platforms and the gig economy. However, exclusively brokering, or relying solely on brokerage services for income, can be a bad thing for both brokers and their clients.

  1. Lack of Control: Exclusively brokering means that brokers do not have control over the products or services they are brokering. They are dependent on the decisions of the parties they are facilitating transactions for and often have limited ability to influence those decisions. This lack of control can make it difficult for brokers to ensure that their clients are receiving the best possible deals, which can lead to dissatisfaction and loss of business.
  2. Conflict of Interest: Brokers who rely solely on brokering fees for income may be more likely to prioritize their own financial gain over the best interests of their clients. This conflict of interest can lead to brokers recommending transactions or products that are not in their client’s best interests. In addition, brokers may be tempted to steer clients towards transactions that will result in higher fees, even if those transactions are not the best fit for the client.
  3. Limited Earning Potential: Exclusively brokering can be a risky business model, as brokers are dependent on the volume and frequency of transactions to earn income. This can be especially challenging for brokers who are just starting out and do not yet have a large client base. In addition, brokers may find that they are unable to earn enough to sustain themselves if there is a downturn in the market or if there is a decrease in demand for their services.
  4. Lack of Expertise: Brokers who exclusively broker may not have the same level of expertise as brokers who specialize in a particular product or service. For example, a broker who exclusively brokers real estate transactions may not have the same knowledge or experience as a real estate agent specializing in a particular area or type of property. This lack of expertise can limit the broker’s ability to provide valuable insights and advice to their clients.
  5. Lack of Long-Term Relationships: Exclusively brokering can lead to a transactional relationship between brokers and their clients, rather than a long-term partnership. Clients may see brokers as a necessary intermediary, rather than a trusted advisor. This can limit the potential for repeat business or referrals, as clients may not feel a sense of loyalty or connection to their broker.

          Conclusion

Exclusively brokering can be a bad thing for both brokers and their clients. It can limit brokers’ control, earning potential, and expertise, while also creating conflicts of interest and limiting the potential for long-term relationships with clients. Brokers who are considering exclusively brokering should carefully consider these potential drawbacks before committing to this business model.

Furthermore whilst exclusively brokering potentially can mean more money in the pot for the broker, if a domain sells, stating you are exclusively brokering will burn bridges because other brokers will be reluctant to share the information to spread brand awareness. Only loyal followers of the broker may help by sharing the content but other brokers will not find it in their best interest to help their competitors. It, therefore, makes more sense to partner with a few brokers and share the commission, that way it helps to widen the gap in spreading brand awareness.

Remember if you do decide to jointly broker your domain names, you must get the person to sign a joint broker commission agreement so that there are no misunderstandings down the line, (we have an agreement should you not have one which we can send to you free of charge).

A domain name that is simply listed on a marketplace will just be sucked into a saturated list of domains and unless the domain name has some marketing and SEO the likelihood of the domain name being found will be limited unless someone actively is looking for it by typing the domain name into the search bar of their browser. Therefore it is imperative to have a landing page and perform SEO and marketing for the domain name in order for it to be found. Sales pages on marketplaces do not do any SEO and will simply rely on someone to search for the domain name for the user to land on that page. Here at UK Domain Brokers we write content and optimize meta descriptions so that people can find domain names in a number of ways.

If you want us to help you get your domains on the first pages of search engines and write content to help the prospective buyer, then reach out to us. Listing your domain names with us is free, however marketing and SEO costs from £20.00 or $25.00

Setting Up WordPress Blog – Ultimate Guide.

Setting Up WordPress Blog – Ultimate Guide

20 Reasons Why Blogging is Important for SEO to Rank Website:

          1. Indexing and Ranking – Google needs unique consistent, niche-relevant content to determine your domain positioning. Search Engines indexing is a process by which they crawl and index websites, documents, or other online content. The indexing process is done to create a database of information for use in search engines. This will result in your website/blog being visible on search engines (SERPs). Google SERP stands for (Search Engine Results Page). This refers to the pages of results that are returned when someone does searching for something on search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, or others.”
          2. SEO – You can manage your SEO better with a WordPress site without writing code. By adding in plugins such as all-in-one-SEO or Yoast, you will get used to optimizing your site using keywords, metadata, etc.
          3. Keywords – Target More Keywords to Rank for your Blog and Service Pages.
          4. Backlinks – Blogging Helps to Attract both External and Internal Links.
          5. Blogs Secure Your Global Positioning – Blogs will promote you as an industry leader.
          6. Brand Awareness – Blogs can create brand awareness because the more post you make the quicker people will recognize you as an industry leader.
          7. New Opportunities – Blogs help to create new opportunities.
          8. Social Media Exposure – Blogs are easy at creating social media exposure.
          9. Comments – Blogs allow readers to leave comments.
          10. Hosting Costs – Blogs are cheaper to host than normal (static) websites
          11. Reduces Bounce Rate – Increase Dwell Time and Decrease Bounce Rate.
          12. Ranking Your Services – Helps in Ranking Website Services and Product keywords.
          13. Pillar Cluster – Enables you to use the Pillar Cluster technique (listing your posts into categories)
          14. Google EAT – YMYL Parameters – Make Your Website Stand on Google’s EAT Parameters. E-A-T means Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. E-A-T is part of Google’s algorithm and baked into Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines.
          15. Link Building – A Blog Gives More Reasons for other Sites to Link to your Site.
          16. Brand Awareness – Helps to Attract More People and Connect with your Audience.
          17. SEO Link Wheel – Having multiple blogs linking together and pointing to your default site drives targeted traffic.
          18. PPC Advertising – Providing you have done everything right within a short space of time your blog should be visible on the first page of search engines. Once on the first page of Google, you will not need to pay for PPC advertising which alone will save you tonnes of money.
          19. Content Contributions – Having a Blog allows contributions from other content writers to make guest posts.
          20. Building An Email List – Having a Blog encourages readers to subscribe and gives you the opportunity to build an email list where you can then send newsletters and offers to people that want to hear from you.

Do you need help building a blog?

Have you already got a WordPress blog and need help configuring it, or are you considering having a blog or two and need help building it?

Starting either a blog or a website can be very overwhelming at first, especially if you have never done it before. Even if you try to do it yourself you still have to learn SEO and marketing. Blogs and Websites are not set and forgotten, you have to maintain them regularly. WordPress plugins need to be updated for bug fixes, it all takes time and dedication.

Choosing a blog or a website?

Although it sounds the same there is a vast difference between blogs and websites. A website can contain a blog, (subdomain or subdirectory) a blog on the other hand doesn’t usually contain a website. The only way you can link your WordPress Blog to contain your website is to set up a custom link (see diagram below I have linked the SKY NEWS website to our site). A blog and a website are not the same as they have two different functions, although they may look similar.

New – Dropdown Menu -SKY News.

What is The Difference Between Blogs and Websites?

The difference between a blog and other types of websites is that blogs are updated on a regular basis with new content, which is displayed in reverse chronological order (new blog posts first). You can also add more functions and capabilities without writing code by installing plugins that perform different tasks. You have more flexibility with a blog rather than a website.

Typical websites are static in nature where content is organized in pages, and they are not updated frequently. Whereas a blog is more flexible where you can list your articles under categories and are usually updated more frequently. Some bloggers publish multiple new articles a day.

Blogs can be part of a larger website. Often businesses have a blog section where they regularly create content to inform and educate their customers. However one should not confuse a webpage on a website with a blog because it has minimal function compared to a WordPress blog. Both the webpage and the blog may have updated content but a WordPress Blog has more functionality.

You can use WordPress to create both, a website and a blog, that’s why a lot of business owners use WordPress to build their small business websites.

With that said, let’s look at all the things you need to build a website.

What do I need to build a blog/website?

You’ll need the following 6 things to start your WordPress site.

          1. A domain name – this is fundamentally the most important part of building your brand. This is the name of your website such as google.com. The shorter the domain name the better but if you are going to be building a niche rather than a brand, we recommend (location+keyword or keyword+location domain names).
          2. WordPress hosting – this is where your website files are stored (Register a package on a site that gives you special offers. (Business WordPress on IONOS.co.uk is £1.20 per month for the first year to include a free domain name, providing it is available).
          3. Search Engine Optimization – Learn SEO
          4. Marketing – Learn how to do marketing and advertising.
          5. Networking – Build a network of followers and join social media pages and groups to promote your blog.
          6. Build An SEO Link Wheel and link your blogs and website together.

How much does a WordPress website cost?

          UK Website Designers Logo

Depending if you plan to develop it yourself or hire a WordPress expert will determine the initial cost. We can build a WordPress site, manage it and create two blog posts per month for £25.00 pm based on a basic package to include professional emails, marketing, and advertising on our network and websites. We will send you a bespoke quote tailored to your needs on request.

A typical personal WordPress website can cost as low as £115 if you do it yourself. The cost of a business website can range from anywhere between £300 per year to as high as £30,000 per year if designed and developed by a professional.

We recommend all our readers start small and then add more features to your website as your business and budget grows. This way you will save money and minimize potential losses while avoiding overspending.

Which is the best website builder platform?

Although WordPress is free if you go to WordPress.org you may want to have a managed site with backups and get the support should things go wrong (yes occasionally things can go wrong especially if you do not do WordPress updates or plugin updates. We recommend using a managed-hosting package via an accredited hosting company.

          IONOS - Official Partner

WordPress is the most popular website platform in the world. It powers nearly 43% of all websites on the internet.

WordPress is free, open source, and comes with thousands of pre-built website designs and extensions. It is extremely flexible and works with almost every third-party tool and service available to website owners. The only thing I will add choosing the free option does not give you a Domain Name and does not give you the support, should you need it. The open-source version is also very basic compared to a hosted version.

          Step 1. WordPress Setup

One of the most common mistakes that beginners make is choosing the wrong website platform. If you choose the self-managed as opposed to managed hosting option you have the basic tools. We recommend managed hosting and as little as £1.20 per month for the first year it is cheaper than a cup of coffee, it then increases after a year to £9.60 plus the renewal of your domain name which is a one-time fee for the year of around £15.00 depending on which domain extension you are using. Each domain extension has a different renewal price.

Regardless of your choice in hosting packages, WordPress comes with thousands of designs and addons which allow you to create any kind of website you can think of.

If WordPress is free, then where is the cost coming from?

WordPress is free because you’ll have to arrange your own custom domain name and web hosting provider, which costs money.

A Domain Name is your website’s address on the internet. If your audience knows your domain name they will type it into their browsers, for those that don’t you will have to rely on exact match searchable keyword and phrase domains and if you do little SEO you will have to rely heavily on marketing and advertising to get your blog on the first pages of search engines. This is a costly endeavor so we recommend you start learning about SEO or leave it for the experts to handle.

If your audience is actively searching for you and knows your domain name they will type in their browsers to reach your site (For example, ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk, ukdomainbrokers.com).

With IONOS.co.uk you get a free domain name for the first year provided it is available to register. A domain name therefore for renewals typically costs around £14.99/year depending on the registrar and domain extension.

However, for more brandable names or names that have been bought by domain investors, the price of domains can be much higher. A one-word dot com domain name will usually command very high prices. List of most expensive domain names – Wikipedia If a domain investor generates traffic for the said domain name then the moment it is registered and developed it will increase in value. If the domain investor goes one step further and designs a logo, markets, and advertises the domain then the asking price will be in line with what you could potentially save in PPC advertising especially if the domain seller gets your domain on the first page of search engines.

If you need help choosing a domain name for your website, we are on hand to advise you. Alternatively, you can browse our list on our site.

If you choose to develop the WordPress site yourself and register for the WordPress package you will need to first register your details, such as name, address, telephone number, login username, password, and also your payment details.

You may be prompted to buy extra options such as Ranking Coach, JetPack, etc, we do not recommend doing this and recommend you opt out. You can do this later if you change your mind.

Next, you will add your payment information to finish the purchase.

After completing your purchase, you’ll receive an email with details on how to log in to your web hosting control panel (cPanel).

This is your hosting account dashboard where you manage everything like getting support, setting up emails, etc. Most importantly, this is where you’ll install WordPress.

          Step 2. Install WordPress

When you signup with IONOS using our link, they will automatically install WordPress for you. They launched this one-click WordPress installer to make it easier for non-techy users to create their blogs.

What this means is you simply need to log in to your IONOS account, and then click the Login to WordPress button to get started. This setup process has really reduced the learning curve needed to make a blog. If you have a domain name associated with the WordPress package and have published your site you do not need to login into IONOS every time, all you need to do, for example, purposes only type /wp-admin at the end of your URL in the web browser. (https://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin).

          Step 3. Select Your Theme

The visual appearance of your WordPress site is controlled by a WordPress theme. WordPress themes are professionally designed templates that you can install on your website to change its appearance. There are thousands of free and paid WordPress themes that you can install on your site. You can change your theme from the WordPress admin dashboard.

Visit the section on the left-hand side and look for Appearance » Themes page and then click on the ‘Add New’ button.

          Change your WordPress theme

On the next screen, you will be able to search for 9,600 free WordPress themes that are available in the official WordPress.org themes directory. You can sort them by popularity, latest, featured, as well as other feature filters (i.e industry, layout, etc).

For the sake of this guide, we are using the ‘Hemingway’ theme on our site.

How to Install a Theme in WordPress

If you know the name of the free theme you want to install, then you can look for it by entering its name in the search field.

WordPress will give you a preview of themes in search results. Once you are happy with the theme you will need to install the theme and then click on the Install button. The beauty of WordPress is after you have installed the theme and then change your mind you can always go back to appearances and chose another theme.

Once you have installed your theme, you can customize it by clicking on the Customize link under the Appearance menu. This will launch the theme customizer where you will be able to change your theme settings with a live preview of your website. If you’re using one of the newer full-site editing themes, then you will see a different version of the site customizer.

The default WordPress customizer and full site editing don’t offer a true drag & drop customization experience.

You can even create a fully custom WordPress theme without any code.

Remember, you don’t need to finalize all theme settings right away. You will be able to customize it much better once you have some content on your website.

Step 4. Add Content to Your Website

WordPress comes with two default content types called posts and pages. Posts are part of the blogging functionality and appear in reverse-chronological order (newer items are displayed first).

          Hiring A Content Writer.

If you are a proficient content writer you will have a dab hand at publishing content yourself, alternatively, you can hire a blogger to write content for you.

If you get stuck and need content written we are here on hand and we will give you backlinks as a double whammy. Just drop us a line if you need some articles written or want to proofread your content.

On the other hand, pages are meant to be static “one-offs”, they are usually one piece of information that rarely gets updated such as your about page, contact page, privacy policy, custom landing page, etc.

By default, WordPress shows your blog posts on the front page of your website. You can change that, and make WordPress show any static page as the homepage of your website (we’ll show you how to do that later in this guide).

You can create a separate page for your blog or news section to show your recent posts. Alternatively, you can create a website without any blog section at all.

You already know what your blog is going to be about so now you have to start writing.

To set up the navigation menu you’ll need to start adding a few pages to your WordPress site.

          Pages To Include:

          • Homepage.
          • About Us Page.
          • Shop (if you have one)
          • Forum (if You Have one)
          • Directory (if you have one)
          • Contact Us Page
          • Legal Pages (Dropdown Menu)
          • Terms & Conditions
          • Privacy Policy
          • FAQ
          • Shipping
          • Disclaimer
          • Members Login

Now you have set up a WordPress theme you need to customize it with your images and text. There are plenty of royalty-free images on pixaby.com or pexels.com

The next thing you will have to do after you created your pages is to create your first post. WordPress by default provides you with your first post “HELLO WORLD”. You can delete this and create your new post. Do also build a category menu so that you build your posts to fit the categories. Your categories menu could be placed in the sidebar of your site and for mobile view also in the footer.

Remember to also remove powered by WordPress and the Theme Name in the footer of your site, this way it makes your site look more professional.

Don’t worry if you don’t have enough content for these pages, you could put a short sentence to let your audience know your site is under construction. You can always edit and update later. As long as you have not uploaded your site to search engines you are not going to have a whole lot of traffic other than bots so I would not worry too much about writing your first post. You could just say this post is under construction and do the same for your pages and tackle them one by one in your own time at a steady pace.

Head over to Pages » Add New page in the WordPress admin area. This will bring you to the page editor screen, which will look similar to this, depending on your theme.

First, you need to provide a title for your page, this title needs to be unique with keywords it cannot be more than 160 characters including spaces.

The home page title (Home) by default, should be changed to match your domain name. Search engines do not like the word (Home) for homepages and this is a little tip to help you get ranked for the keywords in your domain name.

After that, you can add content in the text editor below. You can add text, links, images, PDFs, embed videos, audio, etc.

Once you have added content to your page, you can click on the publish button to make it live on your website. Even when it is live your website will float in cyberspace and you have to do a number of things for it to be indexed and ranked, this is called search engine optimization (SEO).

          Create Content For Your Posts.

Head over to Posts » Add New in your WordPress admin area, where you will see a screen much as you saw earlier when adding pages.

You can add a post title and then add content in the visual post editor. You’ll also notice some extra options in the sidebar like post formats, categories, and tags.

You can click on the save button to store your post as a draft or click on the publish button to make it visible on your site.

For more detailed instructions on how to utilize all these options on post and page edit screens, please see our guide on how to add a new post in WordPress.

Step 5. Customizing and Tweaking Your Website

There are a number of things you can do in your header (This is the image that will appear on every page and post. You could add your logo or add text. The widgets consist of search bars, category menus, and images to name a few. You should now have an idea of how you can customize your site and with a little patience, trial and error you will get there.

You should also have your navigation mapped out of all the pages that will be visible on every page and post page on your site. You could either have your home page show as your front page or have all your posts.

Let’s start by setting up a static front page (also known as the homepage).

Setting up a Static Front Page

You need to visit the Settings » Reading page in your WordPress admin dashboard. Under the ‘Front page displays’ option click on the static front page and then select ‘Pages’ you created earlier for your home and blog pages.

Don’t forget to click on the ‘Save Changes button at the bottom of the page to store your changes.

WordPress will now use the page titled ‘Home’ (Although the title should match the name of your domain name and should be changed the sooner the better), your site’s front page could also display your posts in order to this you will have to adjust the settings as in the image below.

          Change Site Title and Tagline

During the installation, you get to choose your site’s title. WordPress automatically adds a tagline to your site title that says ‘Just another WordPress site’.

You can change both your site’s title and tagline at any time by visiting the Settings » General page.

Your site title will be the name of your website like UK Domain Brokers. The tagline is usually a single line that describes your website.

You can also leave the tagline field blank if you want because WordPress SEO plugins like All in one SEO, Yoast SEO, and others will override it for better search engine optimization.

Remember to save the changes before exiting the settings.

          Set up Comments Settings

WordPress comes with a built-in comment system allowing your users to leave comments on your posts. You can in your settings set the comments to be approved by the site administrator which is you before publishing. This will eliminate spammy comments.

(I still have not got my head around why some people go above and beyond to send you questionable comments and emails, have they nothing better to do with their miserable lives? do they not think karma will not pay them a visit?).

To deal with this annoyance, you’ll need to enable comment moderation on your website, you should also install a stop spammers plugin and block countries from subscribing and leaving comments. You should also go one better and stop hackers from infiltrating your site (yes you will be surprised how many want to steal your domain name and your site. We use the ‘WordFence’ plugin for this.

Visit the Settings » Discussions page and scroll down to the ‘Before a comment appears’ section. Check the box next to the ‘Comment must be manually approved’ option.

          Enable comment moderation

Don’t forget to click on the save changes button to store your settings.

          Create Navigation Menus

Navigation menus allow your users to browse different pages or sections on your website. WordPress comes with a powerful navigation menu system, and your WordPress theme utilizes this system to display menus. Remember your menu will look different in mobile view to your desktop version. In the mobile view, you will have a drop-down menu and on a desktop, it will be horizontal or vertical.

Add a navigation menu to your blog.

You can do one of two things, you can create the pages first of all and then go to Appearance Section » Menus page, there you will be able to add your menu and pages and sort them out in the order you want them to appear.

Once you have selected the pages you want to display in your menu, click on add to menu button.

          Add pages to WordPress menu

You will notice your selected pages filling the empty area of your navigation menu. You can move these menu items up and down to rearrange their position in the menu.

          Select menu location

Now you need to select a display location. These locations are defined by your WordPress theme. Usually, most WordPress themes have a primary menu that appears in your website header at the top.

Finally, click on the save menu button to store your navigation menu.

You can now preview your website to see the menu live.

Step 6. Installing Plugins in WordPress

WordPress has a vast selection of plugins for various functions, This could cover SEO, Security, Cookie Banners, Google Analytics, Photo Galleries, etc. Plugins are like apps for your WordPress site. They allow you to add features and customizations to your WordPress site. You can install plugins from your WordPress dashboard by clicking on the Plugins page. There are currently more than free 59,000 plugins available for WordPress (do choose the ones with the most downloads). There are also paid plugin versions sold by third-party websites and developers, which give more functionality.

          Step 7. Mastering WordPress

WordPress is easy to use, once you know how. It is also an extremely powerful content management system (CMS).

Using WordPress, you can create powerful niche websites capable of doing a lot more.

          1. Add an eCommerce store
          2. Add a directory
          3. Make it into a social media platform, (give Facebook or Twitter a run for their money).
          4. Create a discussion/forum
          5. Start your own podcast
          6. Create a membership site
          7. Create a video channel (like YouTube)
          8. Create a coupons website
          9. Build a reviews website (like Trustpilot)
          10. Create a site in different languages (multilingual websites)

          Final Note From The Editor:

A website that is not on the first couple of pages on search engines should seriously think about having an SEO Link Wheel compromising one or two blogs. For example, we offer Marketing and someone may not necessarily visit UK Website Designers because of the keywords hence we have a subdomain that includes the keywords marketingagency.cymrumarketing.com If you are selling more than one service consider building a blog for each service you have.

On another note if you are a hobbyist or simply want to document your life in an online journal do not do the mistake I have seen, some friends write blog posts on social media walls (Facebook in imparticular), and Facebook posts are not to be used as blog posts (they can have a link to your blog post). They should ideally have an excerpt of the article giving the reader a teaser of the post itself. It pains me when I see this when the said people have not got a large network of followers but choose to write a book on the topic that is on their mind. This is where blogs play a crucial role to spread the news and grow your network.

Blogs can be used for all manner of reasons and posts can be shared on Social Media as I am going to do on LinkedIn. As you will see I will add an image for visualization and an expert of my article. I will also use the same hashtags that I have used on this page.

I have also experienced in the past people quitting because they think WordPress is difficult. WordPress at first glance may look complicated but if you follow the steps and reach out for our support you should be on your way to building a grand site. ** Remember to use hashtags on your site and in your settings.

          Happy Blogging!

          Blogs and SEO Link Wheels.

I cannot stress enough the importance of Blogs and SEO Link Wheels!

If you think of it this way if you only have one site, you have only one source of traffic.

Yes, you can perform SEO, marketing, advertising, and social media optimization but if you have one brand you could expand using keywords related to your business (Brand Name +Keyword).

To make your brand a household name you must do tonnes of advertising and marketing which can prove costly. Imagine having organic traffic for a fraction of the price. (I do not pay for advertising, and I have secured my global positioning, I am on the first page of Google for the search terms ‘UK Website Designers’ and ‘UK Domain Brokers’ plus many other keywords).

Having multiple blogs with exact match searchable keywords in your SEO Link Wheel is going to cost you less than traditional advertising.

Blogging helps your business grow in different ways. By having multiple blogs and adding them to your SEO Link Wheel you are essentially driving traffic from multiple directions.

Almost 4 billion people are connected to the internet worldwide, there is never a better time for companies to start blogging to enhance their lead generation strategies.

Blogging not only can help already established businesses it can also be the start of a side hustle and a second income for all of us.

You should always have a backup plan just in case something happens in your main job. You can theoretically start a business and generate work without the tedious journey of applying for second jobs and going to interviews. You can become your own boss. Imagine not having to answer to anyone, having to book days off, or traveling to work.

          Earnings & Tax

If you are new to the game of blogging and you do start making money you must inform HMRC or the IRS that you are self-employed. Even if you buy and sell domain names you must let HMRC and the IRS know. In fact, if you buy and sell anything and do it on a regular basis you must declare your earnings. You will have to keep track of your revenue (your outgoings and income) and you will need to fill out a self-assessment form once a year.

          Time

Blogging does not have to take a lot of time, it all depends on how fast you want to launch your site. Once you have done the SEO and have enough articles under your belt you can then post a couple of times a week.

A blog post a day still gives you time to work and play.

If you are thinking of starting a side hustle, think of something you are truly passionate about, something that you feel you can share with the world, it could be a hobby or a craft.

You could also start a small business. A blog can be built around your interests. If you are not that good at writing invite guest bloggers to write on your site. Some guest bloggers will not charge and will simply be happy to get backlinks whilst others may charge a small fee.

Recent studies have shown that companies that prioritize blogging can expect 13 times more positive revenue.

It is important to note that blogging doesn’t only benefit big businesses but also small companies and new start-ups”.

          Domain Names

Firstly, you need to choose a domain name for your blog. If you are an established business, choose a domain (brand name+ keyword).

If you are starting up choosing just your own personal name is all well and good, but if people have never heard of you, they are less likely to search for you or click on your blog. If anything, use (your name + keyword). I do have a blog that I call my online business card (www.renataentrepreneur.com) which I have shortened to (www.irenata.com) and the shorter version forwards to the default domain). I use this site to direct people to my portfolio.

Domain names play an important part in brand credibility.

If you are a start-up and have decided on starting a website rather than a blog this will be your brand name (the mothership as I call it or the default site) where you can then branch out with an SEO Link Wheel and add multiple blogs. If you are just starting out, you want to choose a domain that truly reflects your overall business focus.

          SEO

It is fundamental you perform SEO because without it you will not get indexed and ranked by search engines. You need to use a strategy by incorporating keywords that describe your brand or company within your metatags and body of your content. You will be able to establish an online presence quickly, providing you follow the steps to get your site launched.

When registering your domain name, try to register other TLD extensions so as to avoid cyber-squatters and spammers damaging your brand credibility. I try to in most cases register the dot com and also (.co.uk) whenever possible. As an example, I have developed www.ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk and the dot com is held hostage by a domainer, good luck to him selling the dot com because I will come after him/her with a UDRP if he/she does. For me, I use a sub-directory (pages) for my services and have used a sub-domain for my blog. What is good though is to have a separate blog for each service. For example, a person looking for content writing may not think to click my site UK Website Designers even though I do have a dedicated page. Sometimes it is better to add a completely independent site and link it to your website: (www.ukcontentwriters.com).

With my blog for this site, I set up a sub-domain, I then actually regretted what I had done because it has made a long tail URL: www.ukdomainbrokers.com

          https://ukdomainbrokers.ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk

So I then forwarded the domain name www.ukdomainbrokers.com to it. I, therefore, do not recommend sub-domains, because long tail URLs are a nightmare and will roll off your WordPress page in mobile view unless you make the text small or write a keyword and hyperlink it. I am using font size pt 12 for demonstration purposes of my long tail URLs.

Interlink: Pros and Cons of Subdomains and sub-directories.

          Building A Brand

Your brand should distinguish you from all other businesses selling similar products and services. You should be the leader that makes your brand name stand out. For example, there can only be one ‘UK Website Designers’ or ‘UK Domain Brokers’, ‘UK Content Writers’, you get my drift. There are many brands trying to secure their global positioning, but the secret is in the domain name.

Your product or service must be of equal quality. You need to show you are producing good work and that your customers are satisfied. Your brand will show credibility and trustworthiness and is the driving force behind every campaign you create, and every product or service you launch.

          Blogging

Whether you are making a blog for your established business or starting out, a blog is an online journal that updates your audience. Your blog could be a tutorial or news site, it could be a directory or forum, and your blog could even have a shop.

Unlike websites that are basically online business cards, a blog has more options and flexibility. A website does nothing more other than describing the business, as well as advertise and sell your products and services in an e-commerce store, but it does not tell stories.

For your audience to buy from you, you must capture their attention. You need to write about things that relate to your brand, product, and service, you need to entertain your audience and make the content you are writing valuable.

In contrast, blogs delve deeper and are more helpful in showing who you are as a brand and not just what you are selling. With an exact match searchable keyword or phrase domain name and the help of your blog, you can share content and comment on industry trends, which reinforces your company’s authority.

Blogs allow your audience to engage in your platform to leave comments and suggestions. Blogs let users know about different topics of discussion. Your blog may have many categories and a search bar to find content quickly. Your blog should also have a subscribe option so that you can then build an email list and send the latest news and offers by email.

Blogs make your brand look more personal. It shows that you are human and more than a company selling products and that you are also reaching your audience and telling stories, through engaging content.

          Build Brand Awareness

Your brand needs to secure global positioning to stand out in the industry. The more times your brand is mentioned the more likely it will be remembered, and this is where blogs come in handy to spread brand awareness. Each time you write a post, you are advertising your brand by sharing it on social media. In this era of saturated competition, it is important to make yourself look like an expert in your field to outshine the competitors.

With a well-written blog, you can easily attract your audience by providing quality content. If you entertain and teach your audience, they are more likely to come back and then buy your products and services. You need to show your readers that you are an expert so that customers feel safe to trust an expert company or service provider.

To stand out from the crowd you need to show you are a leader in your sector. It helps build a relationship of trust and credibility, thus, increasing the chances of building a firm foundation that people are compelled to come back to.

          Organic Traffic

If you have an SEO link wheel of multiple blogs, you will fundamentally generate traffic from multiple directions to your (default website). There are many strategies for generating traffic but by far blogs are the ultimate force. By writing articles regularly and sharing them on social media, you will start to get free organic traffic in no time, which means that your audience will mostly contain people with a genuine interest in the product and service you are offering and writing about. Having a sound SEO strategy can help to attract new customers.

          Link Building

Inviting guest bloggers to write on your blog and backlinking helps both you and the writer. Sharing your content on social media pages, groups and forums also helps to drive traffic. Unlike inbound linking, internal linking is something that you oversee. Inbound linking is where something you have published previously can be linked to your latest article on their site. Internal linking is a quick way to refer to another page, category, or article.

If you have multiple sites if say you cross-link an article you have written on one site and mention it on the other it all helps improve the success of your SEO and ranking. The more links you create inbound, outbound, or internal the higher you will climb and attract more potential leads and traffic.

There are 200 factors considered by the Google algorithm, with inbound links and backlinks being important. It is assumed by experts that backlinks are the 3rd most important search engine optimization strategy. In fact, 41% of experts say that building links is the most difficult part of SEO.  When you link a site for example Wikipedia which has high Domain Authority, you can set your blog to ping them when you have published your article. This then sends a signal (email) for them to look at your article and if they see it is relevant to their audience, may indeed give you a backlink back. I usually allow for pingbacks to high authority sites because search engine algorithms can then detect the link.

Creating articles that are relevant to your audience and to businesses that are considered industry leaders can help you gain more relevant links. If people engage in what you are writing and believe your content can help their readers, they will ask you to mention them. Creating links to authoritative websites or getting recommendations from other websites signals to search engines about your trustworthiness and expertise in your specific industry. Backlinks also help to rank you higher for MOZ DA where you build your domain authority, which also helps you improve your overall popularity in search engines.

          Email Marketing

They say, “The money is in the list”, this means the more subscribers you have the more likely they will buy from you because they have shared their email addresses with you. They want your newsletters, updates, and offers. Email marketing is undoubtedly a strong marketing tool.

To get people to subscribe either you have to have really good content that your readers like and want more of, or you offer a free e-book or a gift in exchange for their email. People are more likely to trust your email newsletters if they think that your blog content is relevant, engaging, and, most importantly, informative.

          Social Media

Spreading brand awareness is not only about social media, having your blog linked in your email signature, and wearing custom apparel all help with spreading the word. Apart from all the traditional methods of advertising and marketing, there are social media. I find that certain social media platforms perform better than others. Because I am a B2B service I find LinkedIn one of my favorite places to hang out on. I also have signed up for many pages and groups. Depending on the campaign and what I am promoting at the time, will depend on where I advertise. I very rarely use paid advertising because my exact match searchable keyword and phrases domain names usually are found on the first pages of search engines anyway, so I save myself money. Whenever I create a website or blog, I usually also create a Facebook Page to complement the default sites. I then link the pages to the sites.

A blog post is easy to share on social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Every time you create a blog post, you should share it on your best-performing social media platforms. This then allows your friend, family, and connections to share your content if they find it valuable.

Sharing your content; allows your audience to learn about you. For example, on LinkedIn, you have your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd connections, and depending on the settings people may see your content even though they are not connected with you. This is an assured way of gaining new clients. Sharing your content on social media also decreases your workload and you can share the same article across multiple platforms rather than writing new articles many times in a week.

          Start-ups

When you first start out with blogging you need to put the work in to get traction. A blog is not miraculously going to get on the first page of Google without you doing some hard work. For the first month or so you need to build up your blog to have many categories and articles, a bare blog is boring. You also need to perform SEO (this is important).

I have found if I write a couple of articles a day and I manually upload each page (article) to Google they index and rank my articles relatively quickly. I once had an article indexed and ranked in six minutes in the past.

As your site becomes more established you can ease off slightly with the blogging. It is possible to take a break from your blog for days, the reason being blogs can have long-term results. If you have a niche blog that is already established there might be tonnes of information that the new reader may find informative.

People assume that a blog has a short life cycle but if the information on the blog is valuable if will earn its foothold for many years to come. Ranked blogs can get traffic for many years, providing there is ample content. Blogs can generate long-term results and help your brand get better recognition.

          Monetization.

You have built your blog, and you are getting traffic, but you could also monetize your blog with affiliate links and adverting banners. If you use a third-party affiliate program you need to have a lot of traffic to your blog/articles to get a conversion. It is estimated that for every 100 visitors you will get 1 click at a ratio of 1% however the percentage varies between (0.5% – 1%) and even then after the cookies are placed on the reader’s computer which could be 30 -120 days if this person does not return to the advertiser’s site you lose out on the commission. In other words, to get say 10 clicks you should have 2000 visitors at a ratio of 0.5%.

          Blogs By Industry.

(Put a Location+Keyword in your Domain Name or vice versa).

          Domain Names Sellers Blog.

If you are selling domain names you could have an article for each domain name you are promoting. Not only will your domain name get eyeballs, but it will also help your blog with ranking. Share each article on social media business platforms, groups, and pages.

Simply listing your domain names on a blog and doing little else is not going to get your domain name found. Even the big marketplaces do not do any SEO and showcasing your domain costs money.

You need to put the domain name in the header title of your article and perform SEO.

I did read not so long ago that one does not need to do SEO by a very famous domain investor and I thought to myself he got lucky when he sold his domains for millions in the dot com boom era but he is certainly not an SEO expert hence why his own website is not on the first page of Google other than for his name, but not for the keywords (Domain Brokers, Domain Brokering, Domain Investing or Domain Selling), which proves my point, that your personal name unless someone actually knows you, will not be searched for. You need to be famous to rely on your name alone to sell your products and services. Do not hold all your eggs in one basket.

          The World is Your Oyster.

Whatever you feel passionate about, you can develop just about any topic you feel comfortable writing. Having multiple blogs helps generate traffic and draws in loyal customers. If say you love fashion, then become a fashion influencer, or if you like traveling write about the different locations you have visited. If you are a food business, you could share recipes and tips. You could also write about hosting parties. The categories I have mentioned above should give inspiration and if you need help choosing a domain name or setting up a blog we are here on hand.

          Blogging for Business

Blogging has many benefits, blogging can help to launch new products or campaigns, it also helps with brand awareness, and it drives organic traffic. Blogs can motivate and inspire people. Blogs let your visitors learn about you and your company and the products and services you provide. Blogs drive targeted traffic to the search terms used so that you have an intended audience for the product or service you are marketing and advertising.

          Speculate to Accumulate

When selling domain names, the number of businesses that I have come across that simply say they are not interested before I can get a word in edgeways is unbelievable, they are usually too set in their way and think that their one and only website will suffice. But what if they could expand their SEO Link Wheel imagine how much traffic they could generate.

          Blog Development

I believe a business that does not have the time or staff to undertake a project could hire a website designer or content writer to develop a blog or two for them. UK Website Designers can create blogs for £19.99 per month including domain name registration provided the domain name in question is available and not brokered. Please contact us regarding e-commerce sites.

When you have a store on your main website it would also be good to open integrated stores as additional income streams.

If you want to try it yourself we are an IONOS Partner and IONOS offers excellent packages for WordPress and Web Builder to include in most cases a free domain name for the first year.

          IONOS - Official Partner

Some businesses are too busy to faff about with blogs or may not have the money. But blogging is far cheaper than advertising and marketing. A lot of businesses are reluctant about starting a blog despite the benefits. Blogs may at first seem challenging, but once you get the hang of it, it’s child’s play. We will send you a “To Do List” free of charge when you subscribe to our mailing list. Remember, the more you invest in your company, the more you get in return.

Blogs are cheap to run if you do them yourself and they are not difficult despite first impressions. Once you get the hang of it there is no going back. A blog lets you stay ahead of your competition. It gets you followers and subscribers, and you can do a multitude of things with a blog from turning it into a directory, forum, or simply a place to showcase your products and services and write content about your niche.

          Brand Identity

By far the most important part of blogging is brand identity. Choose your domains wisely.

We recommend (Brand Name + Keyword), or (Location+Keyword). Sometimes domains may not be available but if you do a little tweaking like (Keyword+Location), or (Keyword+Brand Name) you could possibly find a match. An example of a domain name I would love to have had would have been www.renata.com but a watch battery manufacturer acquired the domain name before I twigged so I have settled for www.irenata.com. Sometimes settling for second best is not that bad.

          My Services.

I am happy giving people the list of things to do but if you want help configuring your site and you are unable to do it yourself I can help you but at a charge. I am happy to point you in the right direction but you need to do the hard work to get your website/blog/articles indexed and ranked.

          Writing Content.

An exact match searchable keyword or phrase domain name plays just a small part in SEO and it is usually the content that gives you brownie points and gets your websites/blogs/articles indexed and ranked.

I will give you an example my static set and forget website www.ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk was nowhere to be seen until I created a page and started adding backlinks: https://ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk/our-blogs/ I am now pleased to say it is on the first page of Google because the search engine can see I am making changes.

Your content does not have to be pages long but it does need between 300 and 600 words. Your set and forget websites need to have a blog or a page with backlinks.

Share your content on social media, the algorithms will be able to track this and it all helps to get you traffic.

I have embedded my “Complete SEO” (e-book) PDF for you to download.
