I am curious how some people/businesses secure funding other than through traditional methods like going to the bank with a cap in hand and a business plan.

Obviously, there are venture capitalists and private equity firms but how do you get someone to believe in you enough that they will part with millions of pounds or dollars into your business?

From personal experience, I know what options I could try to get funding but that would mean me having to share my business, which I do not want to do as I have been burnt badly in the past and “once bitten twice shy as they say”.

So my point is how can these companies have secured funding when looking at their domain names I would not touch them with a barge pole.

For starters what about GEO Targeting and GEO Fencing did no one tell them about how they will generate traffic:

Surely there has to be more to this than meets the eye.

I am curious as the only way anyone would invest is if there was a product or service that had perceived equity, which most probably these companies have, and that they did not spend silly money on these domain names, but more so on what is included with the domains.

I know if I personally had secured funding I would most probably prosper faster but I choose to be careful as I do not want to be dependent on anyone.

I have grown my business to offer website design, development, domain brokering, SEO, and marketing which are just a few of my services.

So I have no intention of borrowing money or having business partners, been there done that got the t-shirt.

Instead, I will just plan on knowing one day I will be able to travel around the world and will be recognized for not having handouts but achieving everything on my own.

I am now concentrating on my personal branding as the more people that know about me the more I can gain people’s trust.

The key to success is personal branding if you can show people you are worth investing in they will.

If however there is a ‘Secret Santa‘ wishing to help with a life-changing donation I would not say no unless there were terms and conditions in which I would most definitely decline.

Another person that I read about today was Charlie Mullins OBE, personally, I had not heard of him before but have found out since he came from nothing and built a plumbing business empire and is now worth £70 Million.

So one has to ask oneself how someone who started out working from his two-bedroom apartment became so rich that he was knighted.

I did a little digging, as well as the plumbing business he also buys and sells private number plates. Private number plates are just as unique as domain names and there has been a fair few investors that have made it big and have become millionaires selling high-quality one-word dot coms. So his plumbing business is backed by his number plate business and because of his personal branding, he can now roll in the cash. Would I want him to be in line for the next London Mayor, probably not just as I would not expect any top Domain investor to become the next President?
